The talented musicians of Chautauqua Lake’s Select Ensemble have been making the most of opportunities to perform outside the school setting, entertaining new audiences and strengthening community ties.

MAYVILLE, N.Y. — Rebecca Magnuson started playing piano at age 3 and shares that love of music with her guests as the owner of She Sings Cafe in Mayville, Chautauqua County, which opened a little more than a year ago.

The Small Business Development Center at Jamestown Community College selected the businesses based on their successes owning a small business in the region. The businesses have also been nominated to receive awards at the state level

What should have been a beautiful day for the Beaujean family turned tragic. Early on Easter morning, Tammy Beaujean, a chef at She Sings Café in Mayville, NY, was busy prepping for brunch when she received a chilling call from family that her house, that she had longed saved up to purchase, was burning down. As she rushed home to find the devastation, the miracle story began when she learned that everyone inside had miraculously gotten out safely.

Since the fire, She Sings Cafe has been able to raise $6,125 through their Go Fund Me page, as well as $800 donated in cash. Although the fundraiser has raised quite a bit of funds, Beaujean lost not only her house but all her possessions as well — “lucky, the only thing she did not lose was her loved ones,” Magnuson said.

The Mayville Senior Citizens met Jan. 18 at the VFW in Mayville for its first meeting of the year. Twenty-one members, one guest, and the speaker braved the cold weather to attend.
